M.E. Masterplan

This project highlights one specific workflow within a larger scale master planning project that was completed during my time at HOK. The task was simple.. Design & subdivide over 340sq. kilometers (approximately the size of Philadelphia) worth of property into a range of land uses scaling from resort areas and high-density commercial cores to individual single family parcels.

Working with a large owner, design and engineering team, the first step was to develop an efficient and pedestrian forward circulation system that responded to the natural condition that the site mandated, mainly the dramatic topography of the site. The efficient movement of vehicles, clear and safe pedestrian ways, and a bike trail network are designed to connect homes to services, schools, parks and the main spine corridor. Plan, section and axonometric diagrams were created to illustrate the proposed configurations and general character of the circulation network.

Once all infrastructure systems and road hierarchies were designed and coordinated, our team was tasked with creating a workflow that translated the modeled layout of spaces into a single coordinate system of data points to develop plat plans for all 6,300 lots we laid out in the master planning process. As a solution I developed a workflow using Rhino & Grasshopper that automated the parcelization process and wrote directly to Excel to create northing and easting coordinate plat plans.
